Education
Melanie started in issue-based fundraising and grass-roots organizing at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, where she served in a statewide effort to keep Nevada’s pro-choice laws intact. The measure passed with 63% of the vote.

  • Melanie helped secure thousands of signatures and developed an extensive media campaign—including hosting a public affairs radio show.

  • She earned a degree in Women’s Studies and Sociology and received the Audrey Lourde Award for Outstanding Student of Women’s Studies for her role in creating the university’s Women’s Center.
